Comfort Route – From San Jose

From San Jose fly either Nature Air or Air Sansa to Palmar Sur. Flights costs about $100 and take less than an hour. The flights are scenic and enjoyable and an experience in their own right. If you do book flights be sure to advise us so we can arrange taxi and boat transportation as well.
Once you have arrived in Palmar Norte you will take a taxi to Olea Sirena in Sierpe. Located on the river, all boats arrive and depart from here. Ask for a taxi boat to Playa Caletas or the Tent Camp. If you advise us of your plans, we will happily make these arrangements. The boat departs at 11am and 3pm, the ride takes about an hour and half and costs ₡10,000 ($20). We recommend removing your shoes before arrival or when boarding the boat. There are no docks here and your feet will get wet when you get off the boat.

Adventure Route

This is for people that are willing to hike, have their belongings in secure backpacks, are willing to see more of Costa Rica, and spend more time getting to the camp.

Get yourself to the town of Drake Bay, you can do this several ways. You can follow the budget directions above and instead of taking a boat to Playa Caletas, exit the boat at Drake Bay. Alternatively you can bus to Drake Bay from Cuidad Niely or Puerto Jiminez. There are hostel options in drake bay if you wish to take your time.

From the Drake Bay beach follow the Coastal trail walking south. You will cross the Drake river using a hanging bridge, then climb some hills that run near the shore and finally walk down to Las Caletas beach where the camp is. This whole walking adventure could take you around 1 1/2 to 2 hours, so be prepared with drinking water, snacks, and proper backpacked luggage. Our office is located on this trail near the beach, you will know when you arrive by the provided signage.

Budget Route – From the north

San Jose, San Isidro, and Pacific Coast Towns

Take TRACOPA bus line from your town of origin to Palmar Norte. Costs for this bus vary depending on where you are coming from. At the time of writing this (Dec 2016) the cost of a bus ticket from San Jose to Palmar Norte is

Once you have arrived in Palmar Norte you will take a local bus to the small river town of sierpe. This bus ride should take about a half an hour and costs ₡500 ($1) and depart at 5am and 9am. You will arrive in the central park of Sierpe, from there you will walk 150m to (Las Vegas) Located on the river, all boats arrive and depart from here. Ask for a taxi boat to Playa Caletas or the Tent Camp.

We recommend removing your shoes before arrival or when boarding the boat. There are no docks here and your feet will get wet when you get off the boat when reaching Corcovado Adventures.

Budget Route – From the South

From Paso Canoas, Cuidad Niely

From Paso Canoas you will take a collectivo taxi or bus to Cuidad Niely. Collectivo taxi costs ₡1500 ($3) bus costs ₡500 ($1) and takes about 30 minutes. From Cuidad Niely change busses and head to Palmar norte. This bus takes an hour and a half and costs ₡500 ($1).
